Battleground California At this year's California Democrats State Convention we previewed our Battleground California campaign that will form the basis of our efforts this year. California Democrats are going to work hard to re-elect President Obama and Senator Feinstein, beat the Corporate Power Grab initiative, and elect a true majority to help Governor Brown overrule the do-nothing Republicans. But we're not going to stop there. We're going to be playing plenty of offense starting with House Republicans made vulnerable as a result of re-districting, declining GOP voter registration numbers, and the disastrous results of Tea Party-inspired politics. Recently, Speaker Boehner gave an uncharacteristically frank assessment of the House GOP's chances this election cycle: He indicated that there are 32 house districts including several in California, where Republicans are not likely to do well and that "those districts are frankly pretty vulnerable" . Looks like Boehner may be right for once. Late last month, Rep. Jeff Denham, a member of 2010 freshman class, signed a letter begging House Republican leaders to go back on their pledge to root out pork, because he and many of his fellow Tea Party freshmen are finding themselves in tough reelection fights. County Spotlight Our latest blog series covers the work County Committees are doing this election season and beyond. Last month we had a chance to catch up with the Fresno County DCC and learn about their work. This month we’re taking a closer look at the Tehama County DCC. Click to find out what people like Sue Gallagher and the members of the Tehama DCC are up to and learn what a difference a big heart, dogged determination and hard work can really make. For the Tehama DCC it all started one day at the County fair. Click here to learn more. Save the Date – 2013 California Democrats State Convention The California Democrats State Convention is officially less than a year away. DEM 2012 ![]() The grassroots are poised to make a huge difference this election cycle in Battleground California. So be part of our grassroots donor network and encourage others to sign up and become a Donate Every Month (DEM) 2012 member. Progressive Notes by Greg RodriguezIn Association with the Democratic Headquarters of the Desert The Hypocrisy of Politicization Mitt Romney and John McCain are upset with President Obama claiming he is celebrating the death of Osama Bin Laden and they, along with all of right wing radio and Fox News, are claiming that the President is politicizing Bin Laden's death. The President has not politicized the death of Bin Laden, he has stated the facts about what the decision entailed and followed through on a campaign promise to get Bin Laden even if it meant going into Pakistan. It was Mitt Romney, who, on two occasions, said he wouldn't go into a sovereign nation and that unlimited resources shouldn't be spent on capturing and killing America's most wanted man. Once again, we can see how out of touch with history and reality Mitt Romney and his chorus are. Every war, every battle and every foreign military operation in American history has been politicized. What is even more hypocritical is that John McCain, Mitt Romney, Fox News and the entire Republican Party used 9-11 purely for political gains. Let's not forget it was George W. Bush who landed on an aircraft carrier with a "Mission Accomplished" banner 8 years before the war in Iraq was over-a war President Obama ended. It was Dick Cheney and Karl Rove who used 911 and the threat of terror to demonize Democratic candidates, and who couldn't forget the Swift Boating of John Kerry. And just today, while our President is in Afghanistan trying to bring that war to a close, Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani are in New York continuing the fear campaign and politicization of 9-11. I for one think we should celebrate the triumphs of our nation, especially one that resulted in justice for the families and victims of that horrible day. I am proud of our President's bravery and the difficult decision he made one year ago today. I seriously doubt that Mitt Romney or John McCain would have done the same thing. “Progressive Notes by Greg Rodriguez,” in association with the Democratic Headquarters of the Desert, brings a progressive voice to the desert on local, state, and national political matters. |
