Join the Armchair Advocates!

Feeling frustrated with the state of social media? You’re not alone.

That’s why we launched Armchair Advocates — a grassroots digital squad pushing back against the flood of MAGA-fueled content dominating our feeds. While the algorithms try to drown out Democratic voices and values, we’re showing up, speaking out, and lifting each other up online.

Here’s how we fight back:
We jump into action by liking, sharing, and commenting on key posts — sometimes responding directly to misinformation, other times amplifying progressive content that needs more eyes. From Facebook to BlueSky and beyond, we’re active across all major platforms.

You choose when and where.
This is flexible and easy to plug into your daily routine — whether you’ve got five minutes over coffee or a full hour to dive in.

We organize through a secure Signal group chat, where members drop links to posts that need a boost or backup. Think of it as your activist command center — but digital, fast, and always ready.

Want to join the movement? Here’s how:

  • Address, city and zip code
  • Daytime phone number for verification. Only name and city will be printed.

Writing guidelines To reply to a letter to the editor or an op-ed: Refute point by point:

By answering each point made with a statement that takes the opposite approach.

Example: Republican:

More worrisome, the Pelosi budget undermines the basic tenets of the U.S. economy – free markets, targeted but limited regulation and entrepreneurship.

Democratic reply:

While entrepreneurship should be encouraged we need strong regulation that prevents markets from going out of control enriching a few people at the expense of many people.

A letter can address the majority of statements or the most important statements.

Another type of reply letter can address the overall philosophy of the original letter and point out how it takes the country in the wrong direction.

Original letters:

Original letters should address a topic that is current and has a variety of viewpoints. It should concentrate on one subject and be based on facts. Rather than guess numbers, dates, etc. the writer should look them up and be prepared to back them up.
