A Call to Recognize National Science Appreciation Day in California

WHEREAS science is essential to the survival of the human race, and is a human endeavor that benefits from our curiosity, creativity, and perseverance, and can unleash human potential, transform lives, and provide the tools to grapple with today’s pressing issues such as climate change, pandemics, resource depletion, life expectancy, and more; and

WHEREAS acceptance of, and reliance on, science as the arbiter of truth and reality has been decreasing due to lies, fabrications, false information and the rise of religious fundamentalism on social media and elsewhere; and

WHEREAS March 26 has been officially designated as National Science Appreciation Day by 22 states in recognition of the importance of science to human survival and to promote science education and the understanding of basic scientific principles ranging from evolution as the basis for all biological science to the laws of physics that explain how the universe works and came into being;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Riverside County Democratic Party supports California officially recognizing March 26 as National Science Appreciation Day; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that schools, civic organizations, and local municipalities be encouraged to host special events on National Science Appreciation Day that honor scientists in their communities and that inspire students to pursue academic programs and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Greg Wallis Puts Corporate Interests Over Community Safety

The Riverside County Democratic Party endorses Democrat Christy Holstege for Assembly District 47.

Holstege’s record of public service is marked by her unwavering commitment to the people of this district. As a City Council member and former Mayor of Palm Springs, Holstege has been a steadfast advocate for affordable housing, addressing the opioid epidemic, and the protection of reproductive rights. Her approach is rooted in the values of transparency, equity, and community-driven leadership. Holstege has always been upfront with her constituents, consistently working to bridge divides and find solutions that benefit all residents, not just the wealthy and well-connected.

In stark contrast, Republican Greg Wallis has shown time and again that his priorities lie not with the hardworking people of our district, but with the powerful interests that fund his campaign. His record betrays the needs of our community while prioritizing corporate profits and ideological crusades. He received a rating of F from the Sierra Club and Environmental Voters, but a top rating from the NRA. And he has endorsed the radical conservative Sheriff Chad Bianco for Governor of California.

Christy Holstege understands the struggles of everyday Californians and is committed to making our community a better place for all, not just a select few.

The stakes are clear: we can either continue down a path where corporate interests dictate our laws, or we can choose a representative who will put the people first. That representative is Christy Holstege.

Christy Holstege Stands Strong Against False Accusations in 47th Assembly District Race

Christy Holstege, a committed advocate for Palm Springs, is now the target of false accusations about her residency.  The charges come as Holstege is rising in the polls—suggesting that the DA’s claims and her opponent’s attacks are politically-motivated.  

To be clear: Holstege has always lived in her district. She receives her mail at her house in District 4, she celebrates holidays there, she is raising her son there, and she is registered to vote there.  

Holstege’s dedication to her community is undeniable.  She has championed environmental sustainability, reproductive rights, and economic growth—issues that matter deeply to the people she represents. Meanwhile, her Republican opponent Greg Wallis has aligned with far-right figures like Sheriff Chad Bianco. 

The attacks on Holstege are clear distractions from Wallis’s poor standing in the district he currently represents. As voters, we must see through the smokescreen. Holstege’s record is clear: she fights for her district with integrity and commitment. It’s time to reject the false narratives and stand behind a leader who genuinely represents us..

Supporting Federally Recognized Heritage and Pride Months

WHEREAS, California has been stewarded by Indigenous people for 20,000 years and California has Indigenous names (e.g., Temecula means ‘place of the sun’ in Luiseño) and California has both a long Indigenous and Hispanic history and heritage; and

WHEREAS, California is currently the most diverse state in the United States with a population that is 10% LGBTQIA+, 15% Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI), 27% immigrant, 40% Latino/a/e/x, 51% female and 65% Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC); and

WHEREAS, multiple local Republican led California city councils, school boards, and boards of supervisors such as Temecula City Council, Shasta Board of Supervisors and Huntington Beach City Council have recently opposed recognized heritage months like Native, Asian, Black, Hispanic, Women’s and LGBTQIA+ Pride and heritage months;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Riverside County Democratic Party acknowledges that without BIPOC, female and LGBTQIA+ labor, ingenuity and expertise, California would not be a leader in higher education, entertainment, technology, tourism or agriculture; nor would it be the world’s 4th largest economy; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Riverside County Democratic Party acknowledges all federally recognized heritage months (Native, Asian Pacific, Black, Women’s and Pride) and opposes Republican officials who erase the contributions of BIPOC, female and LGBTQIA+ Americans and Californians from our history.

Support of SEIU Local 1000 State Workers During Their Contract Campaign

WHEREAS, the SEIU Local 1000 represents over 90,000 state workers, and these hardworking individuals deserve a contract that reflects the important work they do every day to keep California moving forward; and

WHEREAS, state workers in California play a critical role in the functioning of our state and are essential to the success of California’s economy, which is the world’s fourth largest; and

WHEREAS, 65% of state workers are people of color and women, and their contributions to California must be acknowledged and valued by attaining a good contract from the state;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Riverside County Democratic Party expresses its strong support for the state workers represented by SEIU Local 1000 in their efforts to secure a fair contract that recognizes their important contributions to our state; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Riverside County Democratic Party calls on the state government to prioritize the needs and well-being of state workers and to work towards a contract that fairly compensates these essential employees for their hard work and dedication.
